Lateral Canthal Fixation
![]()
With middle-aged eye surgery,
more and more people have been asking about it recently:
Lateral canthal fixation is a method used to prevent or treat
conditions such as the lower eyelid pulling down or turning outward (ectropion) and eyelid retraction
as a preventive or corrective measure.
It is not applied to every under-eye surgery;
when an accurate diagnosis shows lateral canthal fixation
is needed and it is applied,
it can help prevent side effects and improve
the quality of under-eye surgery.

With Hani Plastic Surgery's own know-how and skill,
we aim to offer value beyond beauty.

What is lateral canthal fixation?

When lateral canthal fixation is needed
01
Lower Blepharoplasty
Revision surgery
Due to scars from previous surgery and firm tissue,
after surgery the eyelid may
droop or turn outward —
this can be reduced
02
In cases of
protruding eyes,
during lower blepharoplasty,
the tarsal plate or
the ligament is fixed to the lateral canthus
to help prevent eyelid retraction
and ectropion.
03
When ectropion
is present
The position of the
lower eyelid
that has sagged downward
is adjusted
toward a more normal position
04
When eyelid drooping
is severe
When there is
a lot of tissue to remove,
instead of cutting away a lot of tissue,
lateral canthal fixation helps prevent ectropion and eyelid retraction
05
Scleral show (white visible below the iris)
is present
When the lower eyelid
sits below
the iris
Lateral canthal fixation for appropriate
eyelid height adjustment
Correcting the muscle as well
is what makes under-eye surgery done right
